Kindred by Nosferatu Status
Standing among the Nosferatu is based on utility and merit. Those who do exceptional work for the clan or who uncover particularly juicy tidbits of information (that can be later put to use; there’s not much use for theoretical knowledge down in the storm drains) get acclaim. Furthermore, since the Nosferatu are in continuous communication, a well-regarded vampire’s good press gets spread far and wide. Of course, the opposite is also true. A Nosferatu who fumbles an information exchange, gets a burrow violated or assaulted or who passes on false information to the rest of the clan (or sullies the clan’s reputation selling it to others) finds his name turned to mud across the entire ShreckNet in a matter of minutes.

Miss Opal
Lineage: 8th gen. childe of Virginia de Palencia
Embrace: 1748
Status: Anarch ••••, Camarilla ••••, Nosferatu •••••
Coterie: The Cabildo ••••
The massively obese Nosferatu primogen and co-regent of Mid-City is Coco’s counterpart among the Anarchs, but few doubt her foremost devotion is to her own clan. She treats the city’s sewer rats (most of whom are her descendants) with perversely maternal affection, and they love their “big mama” right back.
Armand “Misser Shoofly” Chassagnac
Ghouled: 1748
Status: Ghouls ••••
Miss Opal’s herald. Born Sint Joris van Rijn, this native Dutchman of the Spanish Netherlands served as a spymaster during the War of Spanish Succession and played both France and the Holy Roman Empire against one another. When his duplicity was discovered by Louis XIV, Armand (as he renamed himself) fled with the ill-gotten riches he had been payed by both crowns and established a plantation in far-away Louisiana. Unable to sit completely idle, he took to tormenting his slaves, with Miss Opal being one of his favorite victims. In the 263 years since his retributive ghouling, Armand (who is more commonly known as “Misser Shoofly” among the Nosferatu for the constant swarm of horrifyingly large and bloodthirsty ghoul-flies that harangue him) has been twisted into a slavish, utterly obedient devotee of the Nosferatu primogen—and if he harbors any ill-will towards his former property, he hides it extremely well.
Moses “Moe” Cooney
Ghouled: 1958
Status: Ghouls •
A blue collar Irish-American, Moe was a political activist, union striker, and open communist during the McCarthy era. For these views and activities, he was arrested on flimsy charges and sentenced with paper-thin legality to receive a chemical lobotomy for being “mentally disturbed and a public menace to society.” The chemical lesion killed Moe’s political zealotry, transforming him into a pliant, if mentally blunted citizen. Later, as an awkward apology, the state gave Moe a job as a sanitation worker, cleaning and maintaining NOLA’s sewers and riding along as a garbage collector. His own ambition already murdered, Moe naturally agreed and has placidly continued those duties for more than 50 years. Aware of the state’s unjust treatment of Moe, while also recognizing that the former activist’s position and mental condition made him the perfect, unsuspecting spy, Miss Opal ghouled him during one of his routine forays into NOLA’s sewers. Since then, he has served her as a largely unthinking but utilitarian spy. Everyone from the mightiest CBD magnate to the poorest Ninth Ward junkie wants their trash collected and sewer lines running, after all. Moreover, most individuals tend to let their guard down in the presence of the mentally disabled, making Moe one of Miss Opal’s favorite spies. Indeed, Moe has been become something of a pet to the local Nosferatu, pitied but generally well-liked and protected. Although benefiting from this position, Moe, due to his condition, remains all but unaware of these relationships and attitudes. Intriguingly though, vitae sometimes restores some of Moe’s mental vitality, which has caused the sewer rats to debate whether Embracing him would completely and permanently restore his cognitive faculties or forever trap him in his blunted brain. Blissfully unaware of this debate, Moe simply continues to scrub feces-laden pipes, hose down garbage bins, and tell the “mashed-tater-face lady” everything he sees and hears.

Gus “Gutterball” Elgin
Lineage: 10th gen. childe of unknown sire
Embrace: 1859
Status: Camarilla •••, Hardline Sanctified •••, Nosferatu ••••
Coterie: The Anointed
A former streetcar operator, Gus Elgin earns his nickname of “gutterball” from a grotesquely crushed-in head that was caused by an accident with his own streetcar. Well-versed in scripture, history, and etiquette, Elgin serves as one of the Sanctified’s priests, Vidal’s quietly unobtrusive master of Elysium, and regent of the equally quiet parish of Bywater. He’s also a fixture in Antoine Savoy’s court due to the sheer number of sites in the French Quarter that are declared Elysia. Since the Toreador would-be prince wants to be seen respecting the tradition of Elysium, he reluctantly allows Elgin freedom of movement. Although he almost certainly tries to limit what Elgin can see, the Nosferatu priest is an observant creature who takes full advantage of his free access to Savoy’s territory. As a result, he may well be the most informed Kindred in the city about both factions’ nightly social activities. He’s not without enemies, though, as Caitlin Meadows savagely attacked him several months ago for reasons known only to herself. The Nosferatu barley survived and remains quite paranoid of her.
Nosferatu Status •••
Esther Sue Parker
Lineage: 9th gen. childe of Miss Opal
Embrace: 1993
Status: Anarch •••, Camarilla ••, Nosferatu •••
Coterie: Kindred Liberation Front ••
Miss Opal’s youngest childe was a former schoolteacher and crusading city councilwoman who was one of the first African-American women elected to public office in New Orleans. Miss Opal was content to quietly back Parker’s career, for such a public figure would not normally have warranted the Embrace. Parker earned an exception after her initiative to make the old line Mardi Gras krewes disclose their membership (on the basis they were racially discriminatory organizations making use of public funds) resulted in Harlequin conspiring to destroy her life and send her to a mental institution. Miss Opal could not bear to see the decades-serving councilwoman’s life and public career end so ignobly and offered her a way out.
While only a neonate in Kindred years, Parker was past retirement age by the time of her Embrace and had over 40 years of public service experience. She was drawn to the Anarchs even without her sire’s encouragement, seeing a great deal in Kindred society that needed reform. While she rose rapidly among their ranks, she took poorly to a neonate’s expected role at the bottom of the pile within larger Kindred society: many creoles pointed to her as an example of why it’s better to Embrace younger childer “who can still be molded.” Her all-too predictable clashes with Harlequin led many to wonder if Vidal had approved her Embrace purely so that two “allies” he regarded as less than loyal would spend more of their time frustrating one another than frustrating him. After Harlequin slew one of Parker’s mortal children in the early 2000s and she Embraced him (without permission, though with confession) to save his life, Vidal exiled her from New Orleans. She re-settled in Baton Rouge, where she assisted in Lawrence Meeks’ coup against Marcel Guilbeau and made a further name for herself during the 2006 Houston conclave.
Vidal granted Parker permission to return to New Orleans in late 2015 following Baptiste du Lac’s execution, who she has replaced as clan whip. Popular rumor abounds that Miss Opal either had a boon on the prince, or called in a marker from some other elder who called in one they had on Vidal, to get him to rescind Parker’s exile: certainly, the prince’s impending torpor (and doubts over whether he’ll be in any position to reclaim his throne) means the time is now to cash in his debts.
Parker, for her part, has re-assumed her old role among her clan and covenant with the same unapologetic resolve to turn things around that characterized her tenure as city councilwoman. Everyone knows what Harlequin thinks of that.
John Marrow
Lineage: 11th gen. childe of unknown sire
Embrace: 1887
Status: Camarilla ••, Hardline Sanctified ••, Nosferatu •••
Coterie: The Anointed
Sanctified and Catholic priest who runs a church in the Tremé District. He still performs mass and takes confession from his congregants, even if his undead state precludes him from doing so during the day. The nondenominational Sanctified consider his mortal identity unusual but largely harmless: Vidal, who remains a staunch Catholic, considers him heretical. Marrow evades the brunt of the prince’s displeasure through his residence in Tremé. He professes neutrality in the conflict between the Acolytes and the Sanctified, but for all this, many do not find it a satisfactory explanation for Baron Cimitière’s apparent acceptance of a Sanctified priest in the heart of his territory. Marrow has never shown his true form outside of Obfuscate to anyone who’s talking, claiming it as God’s punishment for an iniquitous mortal life.
Sundown
Lineage: 11th gen. childe of unknown sire
Embrace: 1915
Status: Camarilla ••••, Nosferatu •••, Unaligned -
Coterie: Harpies •••
Few Kindred of stature have managed to remain neutral in the struggle between the prince and his rivals. Sundown is one of them. Popularly known as the Afterhours King, the harpy and regent of Faubourg Marigny has substantial influence over the city’s mortal nightlife. He’s most famous for owning a series of Kindred-friendly nightclubs (offering everything from tinted windows to state of the art fire suppression systems) that have proven wildly popular hits; Vidal himself even deigned to appear at a few before Katrina. Sundown himself has aberrant tastes for a Nosferatu and prefers lavish penthouses to sewers and designer clothes over moldering rags. He maintains a policy of strict neutrality in the conflict between the prince and his two rivals, and regularly plays host to the followers of each. His clubs are neutral ground where they can all meet. Sundown’s efforts have catapulted him to a position as one of the most respected and sought-after Kindred in New Orleans, as every faction wants to turn him to their side. So far, none have gotten him to compromise his independence.
Kaia Kimberly Võ
Ghouled: 1996
Status: Ghouls •••
Sundown’s herald. Commonly goes by KKV. Notably attractive for a Nosferatu ghoul, she’s either lucked out and suffered few side effects from her domitor’s blood, or else hides them well. Doubtless, that’s part of why the Afterhours King chose her to serve as his face.
Alexander Shaw
Ghouled: 1992
Status: Ghouls ••
Former police officer turned bare-knuckle boxer who serves as a bodyguard and leg-breaker for his domitor.
Nosferatu Status ••
Allison Eskew
Lineage: 10th gen. childe of Baptiste du Lac
Embrace: 1965
Status: Camarilla •, Invictus •, Nosferatu ••
Allison is the secret controller of an architecture firm with some ties to construction companies hired to put those plans into action. Of course, all Kindred have angles, and Allison’s is to sneak in a variety of off-the-books additions to the floorplans. The blueprints that are logged—both in the firm’s files and on municipal records—are not the blueprints handed to the builders, who just nod and do as they’re told. The additions are usually subtle things. A crawl space here. A dividing wall slightly too thick there. In recent years, Allison was able to score the contract to design the layouts for an entire suburban neighborhood, which she has seeded fully with a series of simple ways to enter and hide inside the homes. When a particularly flexible vampire can squeeze through these secret passages, a herd is easy to cultivate. Especially when combined with the city’s sewage and drainage system.
Arzilla Boudon
Lineage: 11th gen. childe of Randolph Cartwright
Embrace: 1987
Status: Anarch •, Camarilla Status •, Nosferatu ••
Coterie: Twenty-Twenties ••
Arzilla was a young Cajun woman who ran away from an abusive home in a poverty-stricken small Louisiana town. She hoped to make a fresh start in the big city, but without any money, support network, or high school diploma, she ended up being forced into prostitution. It wasn’t long afterwards that Randolph Cartwright took her as one of his “wives.” When he overfed from her to the point of death, he Embraced her in one of his few moments of remorse. Any pity he felt for his childe vanished when her transformation burned away her beauty.
For years, Arzilla remained fixated with her hideousness and was a bitter, hateful thing obsessed with finding ways to make beautiful people defile themselves. When Katrina struck, she made a beeline for Lakeview—perhaps the most devastated neighborhood in the city—bleakly declaring she wanted an end to it all. Lake Pontchartrain’s floodwaters swept her away and she was presumed destroyed. Several weeks later, she was found to have survived. More, she had changed. Though her bitterness wasn’t gone, her heart seemed much calmed. She does not speak of what she experienced in Lakeview.
Arzilla has a natural flair for Obfuscate and is thought to serve as one of her clan’s most direct sets of eyes and ears, eavesdropping on countless Kindred conversations. She engages in a constant stream of filthy, belittling insults with her younger brother-in-blood Gerald Abellard, but the two are actually quite close despite the verbal abuse they heap upon one another nightly.
Gerald “Greasy” Abellard
Lineage: 11th gen. childe of Randolph Cartwright
Embrace: 2006
Status: Anarch ••, Camarilla 0, Nosferatu ••
Coterie: Twenty-Twenties ••
A Baton Rouge computer science graduate Embraced by Randolph Cartwright to help manage his business holdings as well as catch up the local clan on ShreckNet. To Randolph’s chagrin, Abellard only succeeded at that latter endeavor, jumping ship and joining the Anarchs upon concluding his sire was a monster in more ways than one, as the once-mortal hacktivist couldn’t stand working for a fossil fuel industry fat cat. Both within and outside NOLA, he has some gained popularity among his clan’s neonates for his ShreckNet podcast that he hosts with his ghouled chimpanzee.
Jean Sant Malo
Ghouled: 2011
Status: Ghouls 0
A male chimpanzee test subject in an oncology research lab at Tulane, Jean Sant Malo (then known as Subject 259Q-R04) was “liberated” by Professors Petrowski and Delacroix and some environmental activists as part of a larger act of ecotage. Jordan later ghouled the chimpanzee, effectively curing its cancer, and named the ape after one of the prominent slave-rebels of the 1811 Uprising. However, the ape quickly proved an unruly and untenable houseguest for the suburban professor. Reluctantly and under significant pressure from within and outside his clan, he gave the chimpanzee to Gerald Abellard. Since then, the Nosferatu ghoul has grown to become a hulking, hyper-aggressive bodyguard and bosom buddy of the hacktivist. In fact, Jean Sant Malo is Greasy’s “co-host” of their increasingly popular ShreckNET podcast, Malo & Me (Throw Shit at Stuff and See What Sticks). Amongst the kine, Malo’s hoots and howls have created all number of urban legends, as if the Nosferatu’s ghouled alligators, blood flies, and monstrous roaches weren’t enough.
Ramon Korda
Lineage: 12th gen. childe of Louis Maddox,
Embrace: 2008
Status: Bourbon Sanctified •, Camarilla 0, Nosferatu ••
It’s unclear what, exactly, an IT specialist like Louis Maddox saw in Ramon to take the computer-illiterate general contractor and construction foreman as his childe. Embraced during the Katrina-displaced Maddox’s stay in Houston, Ramon remained a devout Catholic into undeath and found the evangelical regime of “First Minister” Hezekiah Rutledge (Houston’s closest equivalent to a prince) little to his taste. He saw greener pastures and much opportunity to ply his craft in New Orleans, where construction work was booming after the hurricane. He initially got a kick out of having a fellow Catholic Hispanic as prince and was granted permission to remain in the city on account of his skillset, but the discrimination suffered by his clan soon turned him against Vidal. Antoine Savoy proved an all-too sympathetic ear, and now the French Quarter lord has his support. Like most of the sewer rats, though, Ramon remains just as loyal to his own clan, and handles much of the construction work for their underground warren. He’s known to do similar work for other Kindred: adding secret rooms and passages to buildings, sunproofing rooms, constructing new buildings to a vampire’s often atypical specifications, and the like. He knows enough Celerity to do the work in a fraction of the normal time and charges payment in boons, blood, or cash (the latter at a substantial markup next to mortal contractors). He was close to Baptiste du Lac before the architect’s execution at Vidal’s hands.
Yi Huang
Lineage: 9th gen. childe of Miss Opal
Embrace: 1927
Status: Camarilla •, Hardline Sanctified ••, Nosferatu ••
A Chinese immigrant and former laundromat owner in New Orleans’ long-since-vanished Chinatown, Huang was a heartless man who grew wealthy by abusing and exploiting his own people. Miss Opal was reminded of her own life as a slave and decided the laundromat owner required a lesson in humility. Huang changed dramatically following his Embrace and renounced his former ways, vowing to make amends to the “common man” he’d exploited for so long. He just as avidly hunts those who would exploit them. His take on Sanctified dogma is somewhat unorthodox, but there’s little denying the zeal with which he plays the avenging angel. Huang hasn’t fully kept up with the times and remains a devout adherent of Marxism as well as Maoism, which even many Anarchs now roll their eyes at.

Randolph Cartwright
Lineage: 10th gen. childe of Yi Huang
Embrace: 1958
Status: Camarilla ••, Invictus ••, Nosferatu •
A ruthless oil magnate who worked to suppress the Civil Rights Movement, Huang saw something of himself in Cartwright and Embraced him in the hopes that his childe would undergo a similar change of heart. Instead, being turned into a hideous monster drove Cartwright nearly insane and filled him with loathing for his sire. He changed none of his ways and retains much of his influence in the oil industry, which has made him quite wealthy—he’s almost certainly the richest member of his clan. He’s more than happy to help out other Kindred (especially neonates) in a financial pinch in return for favors to be named later, some of which he’s sat on since the 1960s: many Kindred think he just enjoys the feeling of having power over another. He’s also a groom among the Invictus and a procurator of herds: while Marguerite Defallier is known for cultivating “quality” vessels to an individual’s specifications, Cartwright simply produces bodies in cheap abundance through his ties to human trafficking rings. The Nosferatu disdains foreign-born vessels for his own use, however, and maintains an all-white herd of physically abused young women he affectionately terms his “wives.”
Dolores Campbell
Ghouled: 1958
Status: Ghouls ••
Ghouled by Randolph Cartwright during his war against the Civil Rights movement, Dolores Campbell has risen to become the oil tycoon’s most influential servant, living or dead. Publicly, she serves as his personal secretary and consequently helps to manage his financial affairs and schedule. Privately, she also manages Cartwright’s “wives”, ensuring that the enslaved herd of women have the necessary food, water, and warmth to sustain life. Despite such succor, Dolores despises Cartwright’s wives with all the patronizing disdain, jealousy, and disappointment of a stereotypical mother-in-law who believes that no woman but herself is good enough for her son. A staunch traditionalist when it comes to gender and racial roles, the sanctimonious but spiritually bankrupt Catholic is fond of chiding her abused charges with Ephesians 5:22 and Colossians 3:18: “Wives, submit to your own husbands.” Both utterly subservient and sickeningly maternal to her domitor, Dolores rarely leaves Cartwright’s side. Nonetheless, she serves as his de facto herald, communicating with other Kindred and their ghouls (particular among the Invictus) via switchboard phone-calls, typewriter-printed stationary missives, and the occasional, if absolutely necessary, email. Once a reasonably fetching woman, Dolores’ decades-long addiction to Nosferatu vitae has cursed her beauty (and arguably humanity). Neck up, she resembles a prudish woman past her prime whose fashion sense died a few decades ago. Her pendulous breasts, however, frequently leak a foul-smelling discharge that requires her to constantly wear thick nursing pads (and even then, she routinely has to change her secretarial uniform when the pads themselves overflow with curdled milk stains).

Lineage: 8th gen. childe of Virginia de Palencia
Embrace: 1826
Final Death: 1967 (141 years undead)
Status: Bourbon Sanctified ••, Camarilla •••, Invictus •••, Nosferatu ••
Rhett Carver was a dapper Southern gentleman who cruelly toyed with others’ affections and left behind a trail of broken hearts. Virginia de Palencia returned one cruelty for another and Embraced the handsome aristocrat to punish him for his misdeeds. Carver loathed what he’d become and gravitated towards the Invictus to continue his previous lifestyle, where he threw in with Roger Halliburton and later with Antoine Savoy, whom he was one of the earliest supporters of (even making a show of joining the Sanctified). Following Miss Opal’s descent into torpor, he served as the public face for his clan and the closest thing they had to a primogen. He was destroyed during the 1967 Carnival Coup. His close relationship with Miss Opal, who’d long stood by her kin without regard for their factional allegiances, had long been an irritant in her long-difficult relationship with Vidal. Carver’s destruction is believed to be one of the factors that led the prince to re-extend his offered seat on the Cabildo to her in the 1970s.

Lawrence Meeks
Lineage: 8th gen. childe of Stanford Warwick
Embrace: 1769
Status: Camarilla ••••, Invictus ••••, Nosferatu ••••
The current prince of Baton Rouge, Lawrence Meeks long served as seneschal to the city’s previous prince, Marcel Guilbeau, until he overthrew the Ventrue during Hurricane Katrina’s chaos. Meeks slew many of Guilbeau’s allies and chiler, but the deposed prince escaped to New Orleans and received sanctuary from his elder clanmate Augusto Vidal. Meeks subsequently outmaneuvered Marcel at the 2006 Gulf Coast conclave, where Justicar Lucinde recognized his praxis as legitimate (if reluctantly) but warned that she and Vidal would hold him accountable for any harm which befell Guilbeau. A decade later, Meeks is one of the Camarilla’s few Nosferatu princes and has worked to turn Baton Rouge into a city where his clan “has it made.” It doesn’t hurt either that the city is Louisiana’s leading technology hub. Guilbeau’s continued existence remains a fly in Meeks’ ointment and he’s tried every means short of open assassination to curtail the ex-prince’s influence. Meeks’ praxis over Baton Rouge remains apparently secure, however, thanks to his widespread support among his clan and the large number of progeny he’s sired.

Embrace: Early 18th century
Status: Camarilla 0, Circle of the Crone •••, Nosferatu ••
A nasty old swamp witch who lurks out in the bayous, Custance is something of a bogeyman figure to neonates. Originally an Acadian settler suspected of witchcraft and banished into the swamps, something out there cursed her with the Embrace and she spent the next century haunting and exacting slow revenge on the friends and neighbors who cast her out. She has little apparent interest in participating in Camarilla society, but corresponds via letters and animal messengers with the New Orleans’ Crones. Kindred with business in the swamps sometimes even dare to seek her out as a guide. Most find the “bayou witch” a thoroughly repulsive creature, as she was infected with malaria at some point and her moist, warty flesh plays home to swarms of vitae-addicted mosquitoes.
Nathaniel Bordruff
Lineage: 8th gen. childe of Virginia de Palencia
Embrace: 1926
Status: Camarilla ••, Hardline Sanctified ••, Nosferatu ••
New Orleans’ strong Catholic heritage has always made the Society of Leopold the most feared of its hunter groups. Nathaniel Bordruff, however, is perhaps the most personally infamous hunter to plague the Crescent City’s undead. An evangelist associated with the Churches of Christ, Bordruff destroyed a remarkable number of vampires during the 1920s and assuredly had designs on destroying even more. It was his bad luck that one of his targets was a grandchilde of Virginia de Palencia. The old Nosferatu lured Bordruff into a trap out in the bayous, Embraced him, and then deposited the ravenous fledgling outside his own church’s congregation. The horror of his transformation and the slaughter he committed broke the great hunter’s spirit. Bordruff briefly tried to continue his crusade against the undead, but it wasn’t same, and he was run off by the sheriff and hounds. His sire was the toast of Elysium for many nights afterwards. Word later placed him in Chicago as a lackey and leg-breaker to Bishop Solomon Birch and the late Prince Lodin. Reynaldo Gui, a transplant from the Windy City, claims Bordruff is still around and has turned into one of the most hateful and monstrous vampires you’re ever likely to meet.
