Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office
The Orleans Parish Civil Sheriff’s Office shares overlapping legal jurisdiction with the larger New Orleans Police Department, as the city and parish (county) governments are consolidated into the same entity. The Sheriff’s Office serves papers involving lawsuits, provides court security, provides the NOPD with backup on an as-needed basis.
The best-known duty of the Sheriff’s Office is operating the city’s correctional facilities, including Orleans Parish Prison—infamous as one of the worst jails in the United States, with conditions worse than many federal prisons. Pay among the sheriff’s deputies is poor and corruption remains extremely high.

Deputies
Jordan Ratcliff
Born: 1987
Family: The Ratcliffs
Deputy who works in Orleans Parish Prison. Long-limbed, lanky, and not particularly intelligent, Jordan has unfortunately become quite ensnared by the local mob and now regularly smuggles contraband for them, sets up victims for beatings, and provides special treatment to members of the mob spending time in lockup (Silver Penny Sal most prominently among them). Jordan is in truth quite lonely and was easy pickings for the mob, which lured him in with female companionship. Lives with his aging physically and emotionally abusive mother (Sheryl) who constantly berates him for his lack of ambition and success in life.
