“You want to know how it starts? The same thrice-damned way it always starts. Somebody wants something. Bad. Bad enough to shell out clams, bullets, or blood. Maybe all three.”
Louis Fontaine]], retired NOPD detective
This page contains links to all of Blood & Bourbon’s posted adventure logs. As the game is played through play-by-post, its logs read more like chapters in a book series than recaps of game sessions. Newcomers to the site often want to know: where should they start reading?
The GM usually recommends: with whatever PC looks most interesting. Every PC’s adventures can be understood and enjoyed on their own. The GM does recommend reading each PC’s stories in sequential order: e.g., Celia I, then Celia II, then Celia III, etc. If someone reads Celia IV and then Celia I, there will be plot points that may not make sense, and dramatic payoffs that will have less impact without prior stories’ buildup.
Most PCs’ stories are influenced by events that occur in other PCs’ stories. Actions in one PC’s story may have consequences that unfold in another PC’s story. Mysteries teased in one PC’s story may be answered in another PC’s story. Characters and events that seem unimportant in one PC’s story may play pivotal roles in another PC’s story. Many situations will be depicted through different points of view. Depending on the order someone reads through the stories of the game’s PCs, they may develop very different perspectives on the chronicle’s events. As one player described the game:
What I love about some of [my PC’s earlier logs] is that the more she learns, the more questions she has. Her big setting reveal doesn’t answer questions for it—it creates a fuck ton more questions. “Wait, but if blank did blank, why would he do blank? And why was blank involved? Was it because of his blank blank? Or did someone else do blank? And how does blank figure in? And why would they do blank afterwards? I guess it could make sense if blank, but then what about blank?”
And [one of my PC’s big reveals] created those questions without cheaply denying facts. The sort of writing that many professional writers seem grossly incapable of.
[The chronicle’s] best character dramas, IMO, are those that show you that character while also making clear how they’re a small piece of a huge picture. The background isn’t just the background of a portrait […], it’s the majority of the painting, and the entire painting is grand and large enough that anywhere you look you find another portrait. And that’s what Blood & Bourbon is, at its best.
To the new reader, welcome. The story of an almost decade-long RPG campaign awaits below. Everyone involved in the game hopes you have as much fun reading these stories as we did writing them.

He’s also utterly without conscience and schemes towards a singular end: toppling Augusto Vidal and seizing the princedom for his own. An ambitious goal. News that Prince Vidal covered up another elder’s dirty crime has the city in uproar. It’d seem like George’s plans to topple the prince are going smoothly, given he’s behind the leak. There’s just one problem: Vidal suspects George is behind the leak. Worse, he has evidence linking George to other crimes. Bowing to pressure, the prince convenes a trial to give the city some appearance of justice. But only that: an appearance. Anyone who can’t get the mob on their side and make it too inconvenient for the prince to execute them will suffer final death. George will need to employ every trick in his book if he’s to survive. |
